TX Democrat: ‘We’re All Trans’ and ‘Gay Tofu-Eating Vegans’
Texas Democrat official Ben Flores urged party members at the state convention to unite behind progressive challenger James Talarico by embracing all criticisms of his radical positions.
A Texas Democrat official has publicly rallied behind controversial leftist state representative James Talarico, the Democratic nominee challenging for a key statewide office, urging fellow party members to embrace even the most radical aspects of his campaign platform.
Ben Flores, the Democratic nominee for Texas Land Commissioner, made the extraordinary declaration at the Texas Democrat Convention in Corpus Christi on Friday, according to Breitbart News. Addressing the crowd, Flores stated that when critics point out Talarico’s positions, Democrats should unite in solidarity regardless of the substance of those criticisms.
Next time they say that James is trans, we’re all trans, Flores told convention attendees, before adding that when opponents characterize Talarico as a gay, tofu-eating vegan, all Democrats should claim that identity as well. He went further, saying that if critics say Talarico is going to hell, Democrats should collectively accept that fate.
The remarks come as Texas voters prepare for critical November elections that could determine the direction of state leadership on multiple fronts.
James Talarico, a state representative challenging Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican-held post, has built a campaign around progressive social positions that even Democratic-leaning states might find extreme. The candidate has publicly proclaimed his support for transgender children, though he reportedly scrubbed references to “trans kids” from his campaign website.
Speaking on the Alex Marlow Show in May, Paxton characterized his opponent’s views as so far outside the mainstream that they would struggle even in deep-blue California, let alone in conservative Texas, once voters fully understand Talarico’s actual positions and statements.
Talarico has made climate activism central to his campaign, declaring meat consumption an existential threat and announcing that his operation would exclusively purchase vegan products from local vegan businesses. He framed animal welfare as a matter of societal respect tied to environmental urgency.
The Democratic nominee has also made theological claims that diverge sharply from traditional Christian teaching, asserting that God is non-binary. In another puzzling formulation, Talarico has described himself as a Christian who hates Christianity.
Language choices have also drawn scrutiny. Talarico has repeatedly referred to women using the phrase “neighbors with a uterus” on multiple occasions, adopting terminology associated with gender ideology rather than biological reality.
Recent polling data shows the race tightening considerably. Two Texas Senate surveys place Republican Paxton ahead of Democrat Talarico, as Breitbart News reported earlier this week. One poll shows Paxton leading by two points, while another indicates the race has shifted from a previous Talarico advantage to a narrow Paxton edge.
The contest represents a test of whether progressive social positions can gain traction in a state that has trended increasingly Republican in recent election cycles, particularly on cultural issues involving gender, family, and religious liberty.
