Trump Urges Israel, Iran to Stand Down After Tehran Strikes
President Trump called for Israel and Iran to halt attacks after their most significant military escalation in two months, with no casualties reported from overnight strikes.
The president took to Truth Social to deliver his message after Iran launched three waves of missiles targeting the Jewish state, while Israeli forces struck truck-based surface-to-air launchers and petrochemical facilities deep inside the Islamic Republic. Donald Trump wrote that Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting, according to New York Post.
No casualties were reported from the intense overnight exchange, which marked the first major confrontation since a ceasefire between the United States and Iran took hold on April 8.
Trump Signals Ceasefire Momentum
In a follow-up social media post, Trump stated that both Iran and Israel were looking to implement an immediate ceasefire. He indicated that final negotiations on peace are moving forward, though subject to potential disruption by ignorance or stupidity. The American president confirmed that the blockade would remain fully operational until a final agreement is reached, adding that developments should unfold quickly.
The White House gave no indication that American military operations against Tehran would resume as a result of the Iranian strikes on Israel. Trump had previously told The Post’s Pod Force One program that the Iranian port blockade would likely be lifted before Labor Day on September 7.
Strikes Hit Multiple Iranian Cities
Explosions were reported across multiple Iranian cities including Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz and Tehran. State media confirmed that a petrochemical factory in Mahshahr sustained damage during the Israeli operations. Israeli forces also targeted a military installation in Tabriz, though local authorities reported no casualties, according to IRNA.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps boasted that its strikes on Israeli military installations at Tel-Nof and Nevatim air bases were part of Operation Nasr. The regime characterized the operation as retaliation for what it called Zionist aggression against radar sites across three areas of Iranian territory.
The IRGC Intelligence Organization declared the overnight operations a complete success.
Tehran Blames Washington
Iran had warned Sunday of imminent retaliation after Israel conducted strikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut suburbs. Tehran blamed both Israel and the United States for those attacks.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, stated that no one believes Israel would take any action without American coordination. He declared that the United States bears responsibility for Israeli aggression and will also be accountable for consequences of any further escalation.
Regional Impact
The renewed military confrontation threatens to pull the broader Middle East back toward full-scale war. Iraqi officials closed the country’s airspace for 72 hours as a precautionary measure in response to the heightened tensions.
Damascus International Airport in Syria will remain shuttered until 11 p.m. local time Monday, though Israeli airspace continues normal operations.
