Trump disclosed the diplomatic outreach during a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when questioned by Breitbart News White House Correspondent Nick Gilbertson.

When asked whether he could leverage momentum from the Iran deal to secure an end to the Ukraine conflict, Trump confirmed he had conducted productive talks with both warring leaders. I had two good conversations with President Zelensky and with President Putin, the President stated, while acknowledging the difficulty posed by animosity between the two men.

The President noted that despite ending eight wars during his time in office, resolving the Ukraine conflict has proven more challenging than initially expected due to personal tensions between Zelensky and Putin.

Trump’s remarks followed his Tuesday statement that with Iran now in the rear view mirror, his focus had returned to solving the Ukraine war.

During a separate bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Trump disclosed he had already held one productive session with Zelensky and planned another meeting later that day. He emphasized that Russia has suffered tremendous casualties, as has Ukraine, and urged Moscow to make a deal.

The President also referenced his recent conversation with Putin and acknowledged the significant personal animosity between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders that must be overcome to reach a settlement.

Russia has not attended G7 summits since being expelled from what was then the G8 in 2014. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to speculation about potential leader-level talks between Putin and Zelensky by suggesting Moscow as a possible venue for such discussions.
