A true triumph of peace and unity in Thrace, as the Muftis of Thrace, the DEMBP (Democratic Union of Western Thrace Turks), religious teachers, representatives of organizations, and hundreds of citizens, both Christians and Muslims, gave a powerful example of cohesion.

They gathered en masse (see photos) in the courtroom in Xanthi to stand in solidarity with Dr. Cihat Halil, former Acting Mufti of Komotini, following the harassment he suffered outside the Platanos (Çınar) mosque.

The incident had occurred while Dr. Halil was going to pray. A group of individuals confronted him with verbal attacks and harassment, actions that provoked intense outcry in the local community. From the very first moment, religious and social organizations in Thrace condemned them as foreign to the tradition of peaceful coexistence that has characterized the region for decades.

The case reached the courts after a postponement that had been granted following a request by the defendants. At the new hearing, the presence of minority representatives and citizens from Xanthi, Komotini, and Evros was impressive. In this way, the common will for respect, composure, and dialogue was highlighted, far from mindsets that seek to sow discord.

Thrace showed once again that it stands firm against such attempts. Christian and Muslim citizens, together with their institutional representatives, defended the harmonious coexistence that constitutes the true strength of the region.

As reported in an article by Thraction, this broad-based mobilization constitutes the most eloquent response to those who try to instrumentalize religious issues and disrupt social peace. Legality, institutional safeguarding, and mutual respect remain the solid foundations for the future of Thrace, while simultaneously isolating those who operate at the extremes.
