The X-ray of Sadik Ahmet family: Deep state, religious orders and economic feudalism in Thrace
Dr. Sadık Ahmet's heirs allegedly use human rights as cover for nationalist, religious, and economic control in Western Thrace, symbolized by a White Toros linked to Turkey's violent 1990s parastate operations.
Historical observation and the semiotics of political analysis, guided by rationalism and systematic documentation of events, indicate that the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet was never a true “defender of human rights.” On the contrary, historiography and bibliography have always treated him as a nationalist provocateur, guided by Ankara, who systematically attempted to torpedo the peaceful and cosmopolitan social structure in Western Thrace.
From Nationalist Provocateur to Economic and Religious Guardianship
Written by Nikos Arvanitis
Today, the profile and public choices of his heirs, Funda and Levent Sadık Ahmet, constitute the most tangible proof vindicating the enduring concerns of political and diplomatic observers about “illegal interventions and underground influences” in the region. Behind an artificial smokescreen of “rights struggle” is revealed a coordinated effort to impose power, which rests on an explosive triptych: parastate nationalism, religious radicalism, and economic feudalism.
1. The “White Toros” (Beyaz Toros): The Synthesis of Mafia and Parastate
The presence of a “White Toros” (Beyaz Toros / Renault Toros) model next to the Turkish flag in the office of Funda Sadık Ahmet—who identifies herself as a lawyer—raises serious concerns and goes beyond the limits of a simple decorative object.
1. The Dark Decade of the 1990s: The vehicle of extrajudicial executions.
In Turkish political history, the White Toros represents the absolute symbol of terror. During the 1990s, these specific vehicles were used by paramilitary groups, the mafia, and the notorious, unofficial secret service of the Turkish gendarmerie, JİTEM, for abductions under cover of darkness, torture, and disappearances of political activists, citizens of Kurdish origin, and investigative journalists.
2. The Susurluk Scandal: The revelation of the Deep State.
This phenomenon became identified with the activities of parastate structures (such as that of Abdullah Çatlı) and revealed the pathological triangle of State-Mafia-Politics. When a White Toros appeared in a neighborhood, it meant the complete abolition of any concept of justice.
3. Modern Political Intimidation: An active code of threat.
Even today, the term resurfaces in contemporary Turkish political rhetoric as a tool of intimidation, glorifying crimes against humanity. This was confirmed in the most cynical way in 2025, when major Turkish e-commerce platforms (Trendyol, Hepsiburada) were forced to withdraw T-shirts bearing the symbol of the “White Toros” and the slogan “How do 17,000 people fit in a White Toros?” (a reference to the thousands murdered and disappeared), following fierce reactions from humanitarian organizations and the “Saturday Mothers.” The sellers, moreover, responded provocatively that they draw their courage for the sale “from their Turkishness,” while bar associations filed lawsuits for “praising crime and criminals” and “inciting hatred.”
For a Greek observer, the fact that a family claiming a leadership role in minority issues displays admiration for parastate mechanisms instead of the rule of law constitutes a direct provocation. The official engagement of Funda Sadık Ahmet as an advisor to the ultra-nationalist Great Unity Party (BBP) in Turkey confirms that the choice of these symbols is not accidental, but shows a person fully integrated into the most aggressive and revisionist structures of the neighboring country.
2. The “Menzil” Threat: Import of Religious Radicalism
The public display of faith and underground connections of the family with the all-powerful, “holding-ized” religious order (tarikat) Menzil of Turkey constitute another serious indication of a threat to regional security.
The Political Connecting Link: The president of the far-right BBP party, Mustafa Destici, serves as the close mentor of Funda Sadık Ahmet and her circle (including former DEB president Mustafa Ali Çavuş). The BBP party is historically and organically connected to the Menzil order, with its leadership actively participating in the internal workings and factions of the order.
While Greece consistently pursues the integration and progress of the minority within a modern, European, and secular framework, this particular family chooses to connect with theocratic networks that are shaken by fierce internal community conflicts over control of economic millions. The attempt to draw power from such networks of political Islam with the aim of influencing Thrace comes into complete opposition with European values and aims to entrap the free European Muslim citizens of the region.
3. Economic Colonialism: Defense of Rights or Commercial Monopoly?
The business activity of the family in Greek Thrace, with main representative Levent Sadık Ahmet, is not interpreted by independent observers as a healthy investment, but as a methodical attempt at economic guardianship of the region, exploiting their “heavy” name and the backing of Ankara’s deep structures.
| Business Arm | Method of Action | Goal & Impact |
| DCT Trading | Acquisition and monopolistic control of cotton production in Thrace. | Creation of a relationship of economic dependence of local producers on the family’s interests. |
| Yaka & Bluefarm Facilities | Large investments in cherry packaging in Yaka and blueberry fields. | Use of infrastructure as tools of economic pressure, influence, and control of agricultural masses. |
With the support of external capital and political backing, the family attempts to establish a peculiar economic feudalism based on the toil of the minority. The goal is to present themselves as the sole economic lifeline of local farmers, cutting them off from the Greek economy and converting them into subjects of their private companies.
The Damage to Greek-Turkish Relations and the Minority
This explosive mixture of parastate nationalism, religious orders, and economic monopoly torpedoes efforts to maintain good neighborly relations between Athens and Ankara, while simultaneously entrapping the minority itself.
At a time when the minority in Thrace seeks prosperity, equality before the law, and peaceful coexistence as an organic part of the Greek and European reality, the family’s provocative references to symbols like the “White Toros” (mafia/parastate) and “Menzil” (tarikat) clearly work against it. They provide arguments to those who want to present the minority as a “Trojan horse” or as a parastate extension of Ankara, undermining social peace.
Conclusion: The Real Face of July 24th
Every year, the memorial ceremonies organized on July 24th at Sadık Ahmet’s tomb in Komotini, with the mass arrival of senior Turkish officials, do not constitute for the Greek side an expression of honor. On the contrary, they are interpreted as an artificial, annual display of power and a direct challenge to Greece’s national sovereignty.
The final conclusion for a conscious reader is clear: Behind the smokescreen of “rights struggle” lies a clear pursuit of power and profit. A family, using its relations with the Turkish deep state, mafia nationalism, and religious orders, exploits Sadık Ahmet’s name as a shield in order to control the land, cotton, cherries, and people of Thrace for its own commercial and political benefit. This behavior is consistent neither with international law, nor with good neighborly relations, nor with the European acquis.

Editor’s Comment: The Thrace of cosmopolitan traditions, peaceful coexistence, and European orientation cannot and must not be transformed into a field of parastate experiments, religious obscurantism, or economic blackmail of local producers. The Greek state must fortify the local community—Christians and Muslims—by offering real developmental alternatives, institutional protection, and strong safeguards. This is the only way to break any attempt at peculiar feudalization by circles that draw their strength from the deep darkness of Ankara, protecting our fellow citizens from a dangerous artificial entrapment.
