Texas Democrat Senate Candidate Calls Women ‘Neighbors with a Uterus
Texas Democratic candidate James Talarico has drawn scrutiny for repeatedly using the phrase "neighbors with a uterus" to describe women while criticizing abortion restrictions.
State Representative James Talarico employed the unusual terminology while criticizing the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which returned abortion policy to individual states, according to Breitbart News.
In one instance, Talarico claimed that following the Supreme Court decision, every one of our neighbors with a uterus became property of the state.
In separate remarks, the Democratic lawmaker argued that “neighbors with a uterus” should be permitted to “control their own body”—a euphemism commonly used by the left to advocate for unrestricted abortion access.
The phraseology raises logical inconsistencies within progressive ideology itself. It remains unclear how Talarico’s terminology accounts for women who have undergone hysterectomies, or how it reconciles with the position held by many in his party that biological men can identify as women despite lacking female anatomy. Democratic Congressman Sarah McBride of Delaware, a biological male formerly known as Tim, is widely recognized by Democrats as a woman.
Talarico’s record includes other controversial stances that have drawn criticism from conservatives and religious communities alike.
The state representative has previously argued that displaying the Ten Commandments in public schools constitutes an act of “violence” against Christianity and Judaism, as Breitbart News reports.
During floor debate on Texas legislation that would have allowed such displays, Talarico characterized the measure as not only unconstitutional and un-American, but also “deeply un-Christian.” He argued that the bill imposed a single interpretation on diverse religious traditions and lacked historical foundation in American public education.
In other remarks, Talarico has described God as nonbinary, without addressing traditional Christian theology in which God reveals Himself through masculine pronouns and Jesus Christ refers to Him as Father.
The Democrat has also faced scrutiny for claims made during a 2021 Texas House committee hearing, in which he asserted that “modern science obviously recognizes that there are more than two biological sexes—in fact, there are six.” He further stated that sex is “a spectrum” that can be “very ambiguous,” a position at odds with mainstream biological understanding.
The Senate race between Talarico and Paxton is expected to be closely watched as Texas remains a key battleground for conservative values on issues ranging from life to religious freedom.
