Shooting at Turkish School Leaves 16 Injured, Shooter Dead

A former student armed with a shotgun opened fire at a vocational school in Şanlıurfa, injuring 16 and taking hostages before fatally shooting himself as police intervened.

This morning, an armed attack occurred at a vocational high school in Siverek, Şanlıurfa, resulting in 16 injuries while the perpetrator committed suicide.

Tense scenes unfolded early this morning at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical High School. The 19-year-old Ömer Ket, a former student who had discontinued his attendance and was continuing through distance education, entered armed with a hunting rifle and began shooting indiscriminately.

The attack caused immediate panic. Students and teachers tried to evacuate the building while the attacker reportedly held hostages for a short period.

Strong police forces and special units arrived quickly at the scene and cordoned off the area. During the operation, the young man remained locked inside the school. When police officers attempted to apprehend him, he shot himself and was found dead.

Victims of the attack

According to the statement by the provincial governor, a total of 16 people were injured. These include ten students, four teachers, one police officer, and one school employee. Four of the injured were transferred to hospitals in more serious condition, while the others are hospitalized but out of danger.

The majority of the students were successfully evacuated from the complex. Authorities have launched an immediate investigation into the causes and motives of the attack and are considering all possibilities.

Local authorities continue the investigation under strict security measures. The incident remains under investigation.
