Shock has gripped the local community in Messolongi. A 10-year-old Roma boy was subjected to a brutal attack by a group of minors, also from the same community, who attempted to rob him of a small amount of money and his shoes. The beating was so severe that the child required hospitalization.
The perpetrators struck him mainly in the face. Due to the severity of the injuries and the fact that the young boy had recently undergone surgery on his eye, doctors deemed it necessary to transfer him to Karamandaneio Hospital in Patras. Examinations are continuing there to determine the exact extent of the damage, with particular concern for his vision.
The community’s reaction and police intervention
Police were immediately notified and launched investigations to locate and apprehend those responsible. At the same time, the Roma community itself in Messolongi reacted immediately and decisively.
