Shock in Heraklion: Foreigners groping 10-year-olds in street

Strong concern was caused by the complaint that reached ekriti.gr and Radio Crete regarding an incident of sexual harassment of minor girls in Heraklion.
According to testimonies, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, on 62 Martyrs Avenue, three foreigners of Arab origin harassed two young girls aged 10 and 11 for an hour. The incident unfolded on one of the most central and busy streets of the city, with heavy pedestrian traffic and shops.
As an eyewitness described, the three men brazenly touched the children’s buttocks, who, terrified, had burst into tears and were trying to escape. However, the most disturbing aspect was the reaction of passersby. No one moved to stop this behavior.
A citizen who was inside a bus asked the driver to stop, got off, and verbally confronted the perpetrators. He even spoke to them in Arabic asking them what exactly they were doing. One of the three answered “get out of here,” but the citizen persisted until the men left.
The complaint emphasizes the apathy that prevailed. In such a busy area, where one would expect an immediate reaction, passersby continued on their way indifferently. This incident has caused shock and anger among those who learned about it.
In any case, the protection of minors must be an absolute priority. As relevant authorities point out, anyone who witnesses a similar incident is obliged to immediately notify the authorities and not limit themselves only to complaints in the media.
