Qatargate: Arrest warrant issued for Dimitris Avramopoulos
Brussels authorities issued an arrest warrant for Greek MP Dimitris Avramopoulos in the Qatargate case, but execution requires Parliament to lift his immunity first.
Greek judicial authorities have been informed of this development. However, the warrant has not yet been executed, as Mr. Avramopoulos holds parliamentary status (Member of Parliament for Ilia) and the lifting of his immunity by Parliament is required beforehand.
According to the prescribed procedure, the file transmitted by the Belgian authorities will be sent from the Athens Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office to the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office and then, through the Ministry of Justice, will reach Parliament for the necessary actions.
Judicial sources report that Mr. Avramopoulos visited the Athens Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office on Monday afternoon.
It is recalled that from the beginning of the Qatargate investigation, the former European Commissioner had stated that all his actions were completely legal.
