Palestinian Man Arrested for Alleged Attack Plot in Greece
Greek authorities arrested a 37-year-old Palestinian man in Crete on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks and Hamas membership, in connection with a Cyprus investigation that has detained four others.
Police issued a brief statement confirming the suspect’s detention on Sunday, noting that he is also under investigation for traveling to foreign countries to receive militant training.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches at multiple locations across both Crete and Athens, the Greek capital, where they seized numerous mobile phones, a laptop computer, external hard drives, and bank cards. The Palestinian suspect was scheduled to appear before a magistrate later the same day.
Connection to Cyprus Investigation
Greek authorities indicated that the arrest is directly connected to an ongoing investigation in Cyprus, where four Palestinian men are currently detained on terrorism-related charges and allegations of belonging to a criminal organization, as Breitbart News reports.
Cypriot law enforcement initially placed two Palestinians in custody on May 22 after evaluating gathered intelligence information. During searches of two residences used by one of the suspects, authorities discovered materials that could potentially be used in the manufacture of explosives.
Cyprus police subsequently detained two additional Palestinian men on May 29 as part of the expanding investigation into the suspected terrorist network.
The coordinated arrests across Greece and Cyprus suggest a broader counter-terrorism operation targeting Hamas-linked activities in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
