According to Turkish media, the vessel was operating in a maritime area where Ankara claims Greece has no operational jurisdiction. During the approach of the Greek vessels, a verbal confrontation broke out between the Turkish fisherman and the Coast Guard crew.

Turkish media also published a video of the incident, which they present as proof of the tension. In the footage, strong language and provocations can be heard from the Turkish fisherman towards the Greek Coast Guard officers, with references to weapons and incitements.

Turkish allegations

As Turkish reports state, the fisherman allegedly reacts strongly during the approach of the Greek patrol boats. The video, which quickly circulated on social media, reinforces, in the Turkish side’s view, the image of a new escalation in the Aegean.

The incident comes at a time when tensions in the region remain frequent, with mutual allegations of violations and harassment between the two countries.

As Sigmalive reports in its publication, the footage comes from Turkish sources and shows the fisherman expressing himself in a vulgar manner towards the Greek Coast Guard vessels.
