Maria Karystianou erupts over Triantopoulou case: “How is this possible?
Maria Karystianou's Hope for Democracy party has condemned the prosecution's misdemeanor breach of duty charges against former deputy minister Chrístos Triantópoulos over the Tempi tragedy.
Maria Karystianou has launched a scathing attack against both the government majority and the judicial process being followed in the case of former deputy minister to the prime minister Chrístos Triantópoulos.
Following the prosecutorial proposal to bring criminal charges at the misdemeanor level for breach of duty, the party characterizes the proceedings as a farce.
According to the party, the case concerning actions at the accident site is being forwarded to the Judicial Council without taking into account evidence that could support more serious charges, such as harbouring a criminal and obstruction of justice.
Particular emphasis is placed on the alleged actions at the site of the tragedy. The party asks how it is possible that the alteration of the scene of such a grave case, with 57 dead, the excavation and dumping of earth at points where human remains and critical evidence existed, could be treated simply as the misdemeanor of breach of duty.
“How is it possible to devalue a case that is so morally and legally serious?” Hope for Democracy asks pointedly.
According to the statement, this development intensifies the crisis of citizens’ trust in institutions. The victims’ families, as emphasized, continue to demand justice without compromises, without privileges and without bias.
The responsibilities for the tragedy and the subsequent actions cannot be buried, the party underscores, concluding that “the 57 souls will find a way for the truth to come to light and for all those who betrayed their oath and participated in the crimes at Tempi and their cover-up to be punished exemplarily.”
Hope for Democracy is calling for all aspects of the case to be fully investigated and for responsibilities to be assigned to every person involved, regardless of rank or political influence.
