Inspectors from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) dismantled an organized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) smuggling ring in a large-scale operation carried out simultaneously in multiple regions across the country.

The operation was coordinated from the Central Operations Room of DEOS and involved 28 teams and more than 100 inspectors. The inspections were conducted simultaneously in Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Rhodes, Trikala, Karditsa, Kastoria, Athens, Katerini, Nafplio, Aspropyrgos, Santorini, Agrinio, Rethymno, and Kalamata.

According to the information disclosed, during the customs and tax inspections, two individuals were brought before the Prosecutor. The authorities seized and impounded a total of 15 tanker trucks, while 293,000 liters of LPG were confiscated.

At some of the targeted facilities, illegal storage areas were discovered. Specifically, an outdoor illegal LPG storage site was uncovered, along with another location where hidden fuel storage was identified. The individuals involved will face the prescribed administrative and criminal penalties.

Inspections do not stop here. AADE is extending its investigations to the customers of the companies in question, in order to determine whether the LPG was used legally.

The operation is considered significant for curbing illegal fuel trafficking, while the responsible services continue processing all the collected data.
