Judge Orders Trump Name Removed From Kennedy Center Amid Repairs Dispute
A federal judge blocked the Kennedy Center's planned two-year closure for repairs and ordered removal of Trump's name from the performing arts facility.
U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper issued the ruling on Friday, according to Breitbart News, arguing that while the center’s trustees could have evaluated the closure decision through various prudent approaches, the choice to shut down for two years starting July 4 for repair work was not acceptable.
The judge acknowledged in his ruling that the planned capital repair work is urgently needed. His preliminary injunction does not prevent the center from proceeding with the repairs themselves, but it does block the full closure as planned.
Furthermore, the preliminary injunction does not prohibit the board from closing the facility in the future, provided trustees independently reassess their multiple obligations to the institution before making such a determination.
President Trump responded sharply to the decision on Truth Social, announcing his administration would work with Congress to transfer control of the center back to the legislative branch so lawmakers can determine its future.
Shockingly, a Judge appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, Christopher Cooper, ruled that The Kennedy Center cannot close for renovations that would transform it into the finest facility of its kind anywhere in the world, Trump stated. He pointed out that the center was scheduled to close in early July for large-scale renovations and construction due to years of neglect, decay, and poor maintenance.
As Breitbart News reported in April, Matt Floca, director of the Trump Kennedy Center, conducted a press tour of problem areas that most theater patrons have never seen. The tour revealed significant infrastructure failures throughout the facility.
Photographs shared with reporters documented water damage in an electrical vault room and damage to the vaults themselves. Reporters were also informed that the elevators were outdated and being operated by decades-old computer systems requiring urgent replacement and repair.
In his 94-page ruling addressing the removal of Trump’s name from the venue, Judge Cooper asserted that Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress possesses the authority to change it.
The judge stated that the Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes clear the center is to be named for President Kennedy and cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based solely on the board’s unilateral decision.
In December, the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees voted unanimously to add Trump’s name to the center.
