Hochul’s Sanctuary Policies Endanger New York Children

Governor Kathy Hochul is resorting to manufactured immigration battles to salvage her floundering re-election bid against Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, announcing unnecessary legal aid funding while ignoring the deadly consequences of her sanctuary policies.

As New York Post reports, Hochul just rolled out $7 million in emergency spending to provide legal representation for migrant minors facing removal proceedings—despite the fact these individuals already have access to attorneys.

The governor joined New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and state Attorney General Tish James this week to announce $7.25 million designated for roughly 1,400 migrant children in removal proceedings, including approximately 250 currently in detention. The trio falsely claimed the funding was needed because the Trump administration had cancelled federal support, thereby “abandoning” vulnerable children.

Border czar Tom Homan swiftly dismantled that narrative, explaining that the administration had simply transitioned to a superior contract for legal representation that provides more effective defense for children at better rates. According to Homan, not a single child has attended a hearing without legal representation under the new arrangement.

Shielding Violent Criminals While Claiming to Protect Children

Homan also confronted Hochul over the genuine threats she refuses to address: her sanctuary policies that protect violent border-crossing criminals from deportation. New York State has denied 14,000 federal detainers to hold dangerous offenders for handover to immigration authorities under Hochul’s watch, Homan revealed.

Among those released back onto New York streets were 6,800 illegal aliens convicted of assault, 800 with convictions for crimes against children, and 770 convicted of rape and other sex crimes.

Homan delivered a pointed rebuke to the governor’s posturing, noting the hypocrisy of claiming to protect children while releasing predators onto streets across the state daily.

Political Theater With Deadly Consequences

While the $7 million Hochul is squandering on this publicity stunt represents a fraction of New York’s $280 billion state budget—which has ballooned dramatically under her leadership—every dollar spent on manufactured crises is a dollar diverted from genuine public safety concerns.

More critically, Hochul owns the consequences of every violent crime committed by criminals she shields from federal immigration enforcement through her cynical resistance theater designed to appeal to progressive voters.
