Erdogan’s Chief Warns Cyprus: “For Turkish Cypriots, This Easter May Be Your Last”
Former Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar issued stark warnings over Cyprus, asserting Turkish Cypriot sovereignty and readiness to confront those opposing a two-state solution, escalating regional tensions.
Former Turkish Defense Minister and current Chairman of the Defense Committee in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Hulusi Akar, appeared highly provocative with new, threatening remarks regarding Cyprus.
Specifically, Akar issued a coordinated warning: “To those dreaming of Easter in the homeland of the Turkish Cypriot… it will be your last Easter!” This statement represents an unprecedentedly direct admonition coming from a Turkish official.

In his post, he accompanied his statements with the song “Tanrı’nın Ordusu” by Ali Kınık, which extols Turkish identity and faith. The song refers to a “holy army” bearing a historical and divine mission, weaving the idea of a nation “reborn” through hardships.
On April 2, Akar emphasized that Cyprus is not a Greek island, revealing his position on two sovereign and equal states, expressing the view that this is absolutely inevitable.

In previous years, Hulusi Akar has not hesitated to express provocative positions regarding Cyprus, emphasizing that the security of the pseudo-state is an uncompromising priority. Through posts and statements, he sent a clear message to those who “dream of the island”, highlighting the readiness of the Turkish army and warning that “the Mehmedçiks are here and waiting.” He even declared that “those who cannot swim should not come.”
