Disney World, CoComelon, Peppa Pig Push LGBTQ Content to Kids
Children's entertainment brands including Peppa Pig, CoComelon, and Teletubbies faced parental backlash after posting Pride Month content on social media targeting preschool-aged audiences.
The Nickelodeon-owned Peppa Pig Facebook account, which caters to preschool-aged viewers, posted a Pride Month greeting on Monday featuring a rainbow emoji. The post declared the show was celebrating being yourself and various family configurations that make the world special.
CoComelon, one of YouTube’s most popular children’s channels, similarly issued Pride greetings accompanied by six heart emojis arranged in rainbow colors spanning red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
The CoComelon post drew immediate criticism from parents on Instagram. One user questioned why such content was being introduced to babies, while another stated there was no need for the programming. Multiple commenters announced they were unfollowing the channel.
The long-running children’s program Teletubbies also joined the Pride campaign, with social media account Pop Crave sharing an image of the characters against rainbow colors with Happy Pride messaging.
The Teletubbies post generated sharp responses on X, with users questioning the fixation on children and demanding to know why toddler programming was promoting adult sexuality themes. One commenter argued that toddlers should not be exposed to any sexual content, particularly content that contradicts biological design.
Critics characterized the pattern as LGBT activism consistently inserting itself into products aimed at children aged one to four. Some users employed harsher language, with multiple comments referencing concerns about predatory behavior and describing the campaigns as diabolical.
Meanwhile, Disney World has rolled out extensive Pride Month programming across its theme parks, according to Inside the Magic. The entertainment giant is featuring photo opportunities, murals, specialty beverages, and LGBT-themed merchandise throughout June.
At EPCOT, the rainbow mural outside Connections Cafe has returned for another year. Hollywood Studios is offering a Mickey Balloon Pride photo opportunity featuring eleven different Pride flag balloon designs. Magic Kingdom has brought back its Mickey Pride mural along with a Pride-themed frozen drink at Astrofizz.
Disney-owned ABC also kicked off Pride Month programming with same-sex salsa dancing featured on Good Morning America, as shown in video circulated on social media.
The coordinated campaigns represent a continuation of entertainment industry efforts to normalize LGBT content in programming aimed at the youngest audiences, despite ongoing parental concerns about age-appropriate content.
