Bloody tragedy in Cholargos: 57-year-old shot wife, then himself
A 57-year-old man shot his wife in the leg before fatally turning the gun on himself in a Cholargos apartment. The wounded woman was hospitalized.
Breathtaking scenes unfolded late in the evening of Monday, May 25, 2026, in an apartment on Xanthippou Street in Cholargos, where a 57-year-old man opened fire against his 53-year-old wife and immediately afterwards ended his life, turning the weapon on himself.
Bloody Clash in the Apartment
According to what was announced, the alarm to authorities was raised shortly after 23:00, when a neighbour heard the gunshots tearing through the night silence and notified the Immediate Action unit, resulting in the immediate mobilization of strong Police forces, among which were also men from the DI.AS. team.
Arriving at the scene, the police officers were confronted with a horrific sight, as they found the 57-year-old perpetrator dead inside the house with a bullet wound to the head. Next to him was the pistol with which minutes earlier he had attacked his partner and subsequently committed suicide.
The Woman’s Transfer to Hospital
And yet, the 53-year-old was fortunate in her misfortune, as reported by the Greek edition, as the bullet struck her in the leg and did not cause a fatal wound. The police officers who first entered the area immediately provided first aid to limit the bleeding, until the ambulance arrived.
The injured woman was urgently transported to “G. Gennimatas” hospital in order to treat her injuries, while the area around Xanthippou Street remained cordoned off for quite some time. At the same time, EL.AS. officers are investigating the causes and the exact circumstances under which the argument broke out that led to this new family tragedy.
