Athens center on alert after bomb threats to four buildings
An anonymous caller warned of bombs at four Athens buildings including the French and Egyptian consulates, prompting police response one day after a similar hoax.
A fresh alarm was raised in central Athens today after an unknown caller made phone calls warning of a bomb placed in four buildings.
According to reports, the phone call was made to the French consulate and referred to explosive devices allegedly located at specific sites. The buildings mentioned were the French consulate, the Egyptian consulate, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA), and the Athens Chamber of Crafts (BEA). Three of these are housed on Akadimias Street.
Authorities responded immediately. A team from TEEM was dispatched to the scene to conduct inspections, while the Fire Service was also placed on standby. Police remain on alert and investigations to locate the perpetrator are in full progress.
The incident comes one day after a similar phone call was made on Thursday, July 30, to the EBEA, which ultimately proved to be a hoax.

The mobilization of security forces was significant, with cordons and checks in the wider area. So far, it has not been confirmed whether the phone calls came from the same person who called yesterday.
Investigations continue, while authorities are examining all available evidence to determine the origin of the calls and prevent similar incidents in the future.
