Alert in Ilia: Fuel tanker overturns (Video)

A tanker carrying fuel veered off the road in Ileia, Greece, trapping the driver and causing a fuel leak; emergency teams are actively working to rescue him and contain the hazard.

An alarm was raised at noon on Tuesday in Ilia when a fuel tanker veered off course and ended up off the road. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, while the incident caused a fuel leak, as reported by papafotis.gr

The incident occurred in the Borsio area, heading towards Varda. According to initial information, the tanker went off the road for reasons yet unknown, resulting in the driver being trapped. The fuel leak increased the danger, immediately mobilizing the authorities.

Forces from the Lechaina Fire Department rushed to the scene along with ambulances from EKAB (National Emergency Center). Firefighters are currently working to free the driver and contain the leak, while traffic in the area is moving with difficulty.

The circumstances under which the tanker ran off the road are being investigated by the competent authorities. The operation continues with priority given to the safety of the trapped driver and preventing further complications.
