Trump: Vandals Tried to ‘Destroy and Demean’ D.C. Reflecting Pool Work

Washington law enforcement is investigating vandalism at the National Mall reflecting pool, including torn sealant material, with at least one suspect arrested after allegedly jumping in and damaging the surface.

President Donald Trump disclosed the vandalism incidents in a Truth Social post detailing extensive beautification work his administration has completed across the nation’s capital, according to Breitbart News.

The President’s post highlighted the broader renovation initiative, noting that his administration has cleaned and beautified more than 45 monuments and memorials, 28 statues, and 22 fountains throughout Washington. Trump emphasized that the capital has transformed from a crime-ridden city into one of the safest urban centers in the United States under his leadership.

The reflecting pool, which stretches between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, has experienced multiple vandalism episodes in recent days. Trump revealed that vandals destroyed grass surrounding the pool three days prior, and subsequently attacked the newly installed interior surface using chemicals similar to those deployed against the National Mall.

The President specifically referenced ABC reporter Jonathan Karl, stating that Karl was observed placing his hand in the pool and attempting to remove the rubber surface material.

Reporter Emily Miller provided on-scene coverage Friday afternoon showing law enforcement presence and what appeared to be torn blue sealant material. According to Miller’s reporting, an individual jumped into the reflecting pool and ripped out a substantial piece of the sealant before authorities made an arrest.

National Park Service workers who witnessed the incident were present to vacuum dead algae from the pool at the time. Miller’s subsequent video footage captured another arrest after a man allegedly seized a hose from an NPS employee. The individual, dressed in cycling attire, was detained, though it remained unclear whether this was the same person who damaged the sealant.

Trump confirmed that algae levels have been reduced by 75 percent and that the vandalized section represents only a small portion of the overall installation. Repairs are scheduled for early next week, he stated.

The reflecting pool vandalism follows the recent discovery of “86 47” carved into National Mall grass ahead of a UFC event at the White House, as Breitbart News reported. The numbers reference common slang for removal—”86″—combined with Trump’s position as the 47th president.

These incidents occur against the backdrop of three assassination attempts against President Trump in recent years.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum provided context for the renovation projects Trump initiated ahead of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Burgum revealed that the reflecting pool had been hemorrhaging 45,000 gallons of water daily, despite the Obama administration spending 38 million dollars attempting to resolve the leak.

Burgum praised Trump’s construction expertise, noting that the President remains the only occupant of the Oval Office with extensive experience managing complex construction projects at this scale.
