Major Drone Strikes Hit Moscow – Key Oil Refinery Ablaze
Ukrainian drones struck Moscow's oil refinery and other infrastructure despite Russian air defenses, continuing Kyiv's strategy to target energy facilities deep inside Russia.
Russian air defense systems intercepted numerous drones, according to official statements from Moscow, but several unmanned aerial vehicles successfully reached their targets. The most significant damage occurred at an oil refinery in the Kapotnja district of Moscow, where a fire erupted and thick plumes of smoke were visible over the facility.
Beyond the refinery strike, Russian authorities reported damage to a shopping center, industrial facilities, and residential buildings in the surrounding areas. No confirmed information about casualties has been released at this time.
The attacks represent a continuation of Ukraine’s strategy to target Russia’s energy infrastructure and undermine the economic foundation sustaining Moscow’s war effort. In recent months, Kyiv has significantly expanded its long-range strikes on refineries and other strategic installations deep inside Russian territory.
Russian military officials claimed to have shot down hundreds of drones across multiple regions, though independent verification of claims from either side in the conflict remains impossible.
The strikes come just days after Russia launched attacks on Ukraine earlier this week that killed at least eleven people.
Videos circulating on social media showed flames and smoke rising from the targeted sites, offering visual confirmation of the successful penetration of Moscow’s air defense umbrella by Ukrainian forces.
