The Italian police proceeded with the arrests after an extensive investigation into a series of attacks in specific areas and the city center.

Yet, the perpetrators themselves provided the most incriminating evidence through their social media posts.

The arrests and the incidents

As reported by Imola Oggi, the investigator ordered the arrest for three separate incidents that took place between the Sambuy Gardens and near Valentino Park.

The perpetrators suddenly approached their victims, all rushed at them together, and threatened them with knives or pepper spray before snatching their gold chains.

Similar attacks have also occurred in other cities in Italy.

The leader and previous offenses

One of the suspects is believed to lead the group and had already been arrested in the past for similar offenses.

The TikTok videos as the key to the case

The authorities relied on a combination of security cameras and the perpetrators’ own social media posts. The criminals recorded their attacks and then posted them on TikTok, where they displayed the loot as trophies.

This way, the police managed to identify the members of the Egyptian gang and compile a complete case file.

All four are now charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances and inflicting bodily harm.

The break-in at the home of the 89-year-old woman

A while ago, La Stampa brought to light another incident involving the gang. At the home of an 89-year-old woman, one of the perpetrators was heard live on TikTok shouting, “Give me the money, damn it. Where is the money? I swear I will kill you, bitch,” while holding a gun to her temple as she sat on the bed.

The elderly woman’s daughter, who was also there and attacked, told the newspaper:

“What I remember about them? They were very young. North Africans. I was struck by the fact that the one holding the gun had his phone in his other hand the whole time. It seemed like he was trying to take pictures.”
