Migrant Lyft Driver Convicted of Raping Passenger in Idaho
Rideshare driver Zkaria Mahmmd Al Majzoub was convicted of rape, forcible penetration, and kidnapping after sexually assaulting a female passenger in Idaho.
Zkaria Mahmmd Al Majzoub, 44, was found guilty on June 6 of rape, forcible penetration by use of a foreign object, and first-degree kidnapping, according to Breitbart News. The Idaho State Journal reported the conviction.
Prosecutors detailed how Al Majzoub picked up his victim on August 6, 2024, then drove her to a remote location where he sexually assaulted her. The suspect was apprehended quickly thanks to the victim’s friends who became concerned when she failed to arrive home within the expected timeframe after texting them that she was traveling in a Lyft vehicle.
A friend contacted police after noticing the victim had been gone for significantly longer than the trip should have taken. A location tracking application showed the victim in an unfamiliar area, prompting the friend to alert authorities that something appeared wrong.
The Ada County Prosecutor’s Office credited the swift response in a social media statement, noting that the friends’ quick action enabled law enforcement to locate the defendant without delay.
Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts thanked the jury for their careful attention to the evidence presented during the trial.
Al Majzoub faces sentencing on September 9.
The case bears striking similarities to another sexual assault committed by a rideshare driver in Texas last year. In that incident, as Breitbart News reports, migrant Sameh Chami, working as an Uber driver, picked up a female passenger in the early morning hours in Galveston, drove her to a remote location, and sexually assaulted her.
That victim’s family also quickly contacted police when she failed to return home at the expected time after being picked up from a bar by the Uber driver.
Rideshare companies have faced a flood of sexual assault allegations against their drivers. Court documents recently revealed that Uber alone received 400,181 reports of sexual assault and sexual misconduct between 2017 and 2022, according to Breitbart News.
