GOP Sen. Marshall: Nobody Following the Money, Even Military Fails Audits

Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas raised alarm bells over the absence of oversight mechanisms during an interview on Fox Business Network’s Wall Street program with Maria Bartiromo, as Breitbart News reports.

When asked how fraudulent actors manage to exploit the system by submitting false applications for benefits they do not deserve, Marshall painted a picture of systematic failure at the highest levels of government.

The Kansas Republican pointed to a critical problem: federal agencies are operating without proper financial controls. He noted that even the Department of Defense, with its trillion-dollar budget, remains unable to pass a standard audit.

Marshall highlighted the scale of the issue, citing both military spending and Medicare, each exceeding a trillion dollars in annual expenditures, yet lacking the fundamental oversight that would catch fraudulent activity.

The senator described common fraud schemes in which bad actors obtain personal information including names and Social Security numbers, then enroll unsuspecting victims in programs like hospice services or food stamp benefits to collect government payments.

According to Marshall, this type of fraud has spread across the entire country, enabled by a federal system that has abandoned basic financial accountability standards.

The admission that the United States military cannot pass an audit represents a longstanding embarrassment for the federal government and a continuing concern for fiscal conservatives who have demanded greater transparency and accountability in how taxpayer dollars are spent.
