Law enforcement authorities are currently hunting a 30-year-old Iraqi migrant suspected of participating in the brutal sexual assault that occurred during the annual Maibaumfest celebration in Bad Klosterlausnitz on Tuesday night, according to Breitbart News.

The young victim was discovered partially clothed behind a kebab shop near the town’s marketplace on the same evening as the traditional maypole festivities. Investigators initially identified four migrant males as persons of interest who had been present in the town that night.

Three suspects were taken into custody, though two were subsequently cleared of involvement and released. A 29-year-old Syrian male remains detained following his Wednesday arrest, while the Iraqi suspect continues to evade capture.

The violent attack has sent shockwaves through the quiet market town. Local residents have expressed fear for their families’ safety in the wake of the assault. One community member told Die Welt that residents now fear for our grandchildren and daughters after the gang rape.

Traditional Festival Marred by Violence

The Maibaumfest represents a centuries-old German tradition celebrating spring and renewal, particularly popular throughout Bavaria and southern Germany. The festivals feature the iconic maypole, traditional German dress, folk dancing, and communal feasting.

The celebration also includes friendly rivalries between neighboring communities, with young members of local fire brigades and shooting clubs traditionally guarding their town’s maypole overnight to prevent good-natured theft attempts by nearby villages. Communities that successfully steal a neighboring maypole earn the right to demand a ransom from the guards.

The alleged gang rape transforms what should have been a joyful community celebration into yet another example of violent crime linked to mass migration in Germany.
