Trump Ties Iran Peace Deal to Abraham Accords Expansion
President Trump announced he wants all Middle Eastern nations in Iran peace talks to sign the Abraham Accords and normalize relations with Israel, possibly including Iran itself.
According to Breitbart News, Trump outlined his vision in an extensive Truth Social post following weekend diplomatic calls with regional leaders including those from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan on Saturday. He praised the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which have already joined the regional peace framework.
Trump declared that after the significant diplomatic work undertaken by the United States to assemble this intricate arrangement, all participating countries should be required to sign the Abraham Accords simultaneously at minimum. He acknowledged that one or two nations might have legitimate reasons for declining, but insisted most should be prepared to make the Iran settlement a far more historic achievement.
The President emphasized that the Abraham Accords have delivered substantial financial, economic, and social benefits to current members, which include Morocco, Sudan, Kazakhstan, the UAE, and Bahrain. He noted with satisfaction that none of the existing signatories have discussed withdrawal during the current Iran crisis.
Breitbart News reports that Trump attributed this stability to the Accords’ proven value for member states, asserting the framework would bring genuine power, strength, and peace to the Middle East for the first time in five millennia.
Pressure on Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Trump took a firm stance suggesting that Saudi Arabia and Qatar should immediately lead by example in signing the Abraham Accords, with all other nations following their example. He warned that refusal to participate would demonstrate bad intentions and should disqualify countries from involvement in the Iran agreement.
The President reported that all Middle Eastern leaders he consulted Saturday agreed it would represent a major accomplishment to bring the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Abraham Accords framework. Trump expressed enthusiasm at the prospect, though Iranian leadership would likely view such membership with considerable skepticism.
Trump issued what he termed a mandatory request for all countries to sign the Abraham Accords immediately, stating that if Iran signs an agreement with him as President, it would be an honor to include them in this unprecedented global coalition.
Abraham Accords Background and Expansion
The Abraham Accords originated as a peace agreement between Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE in August 2020 during Trump’s first term. Trump characterized it at the time as the dawn of a new Middle East. Participating nations agreed to exchange ambassadors, establish embassies, and normalize economic and diplomatic relations with Israel.
Morocco joined in December 2020, followed by Sudan in January 2021. Kazakhstan became the first addition during Trump’s second term in November 2025. Senior Trump adviser Steve Witkoff projects four to six additional members by the end of Trump’s current term, with Syria, Libya, Armenia, and Azerbaijan mentioned as possibilities. Saudi Arabia remains a prime target given its wealth and religious authority across the Muslim world.
Regional Resistance and Strategic Complications
The Accords have demonstrated resilience through regional upheaval including the Hamas-launched Gaza War in October 2023 and ongoing Iran tensions. Israel defended the UAE against Iranian drone and missile strikes last month, even as Emirati officials criticized other Gulf states for failing to assist against Iranian aggression.
Regional analysts doubt that holdout nations will readily accept Trump’s pressure campaign. Saudi Arabia has consistently demanded Israeli concessions to Palestinians as its condition for considering membership. Recent Saudi-Emirati divergence over OPEC policy and Yemen has reduced UAE leader Mohammed bin Zayed’s influence over Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, once a close ally.
Saudi Arabia may not share Trump’s assessment of the Accords as an unqualified success and has maintained notable passivity during the Iran conflict despite missile and drone attacks on neighboring states.
Pakistan, positioning itself as mediator in Iran peace efforts, faces its own constraints. Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif flatly rejected Trump’s demand Monday that Pakistan normalize relations with Israel.
