Athens: 37-Year-Old Albanian Arrested for Church Robbery

A 37-year-old Albanian national was arrested after attacking and robbing a man inside a church in Athens on Friday afternoon, with police subduing him despite his fierce resistance.

A 37-year-old foreign national of Albanian origin attacked and robbed a man inside a sacred church in Omonia. The Police quickly located and arrested him despite his fierce resistance.

According to the information released, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon. The perpetrator approached the victim inside the church, immobilized him with a chokehold, and snatched a pouch containing personal belongings.

Patrolling officers from the Athens Police Department’s Patrol Subdivision were alerted by a citizen who had witnessed the event. They immediately launched a search and found the 37-year-old as he was trying to escape.

Although the suspect put up strong resistance, the officers managed to subdue him. He was then taken to the Omonia Crime Suppression and Investigation Department, where a case was filed against him for robbery. He was brought before the competent Prosecutor.

The incident caused concern in the area, as it took place in a place of worship where many citizens seek peace and security. Authorities continue to investigate the case thoroughly.
