MI Democrat Candidate Scrubbed Posts Backing Open Borders, Abolishing Police

Michigan Democratic congressional candidate William Lawrence deleted hundreds of social media posts advocating for abolishing police and prisons, attacking moderate Democrats, and denouncing the nuclear family.

William Lawrence, the Democrat nominee running for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, quietly removed the posts from his social media accounts after securing his party’s nomination. The deleted content reveals his background as a progressive organizer who advocated for radical leftist policies including a complete constitutional overhaul.

Among the scrubbed posts, Lawrence wrote explicitly against the nuclear family home, describing it as an isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society, as Breitbart News reports. He also promoted open-borders ideology by envisioning a world of unrestricted migration and called for abolishing the United States Senate entirely.

Lawrence directed particularly vulgar language at Senator Joe Manchin, the moderate Democrat who frequently resisted his party’s climate agenda. In December 2021, Lawrence posted song lyrics stating that his generation says explicit expletives to Manchin for everything, and urged him to die quickly so they could proceed with their agenda.

CNN senior politics reporter Andrew Kaczynski revealed the deleted posts, noting that Lawrence has since claimed he disagrees with some of his previous statements. Critics view this reversal as a transparent attempt to sanitize his record ahead of the general election.

Criminal Record From Environmental Protest

Lawrence was arrested in 2013 for resisting police officers during a protest against the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline. He and other activists chained themselves to machinery to block the pipeline, which supplies critical energy infrastructure to the United States. While environmental groups and some indigenous tribes have opposed the pipeline where it crosses tribal lands, it remains essential to meeting American energy needs. His conviction was later expunged from his record.

Soros-Backed Activism and November Matchup

Lawrence won the Democratic primary in August and now faces incumbent Representative Tom Barrett, a Republican, in what analysts consider a competitive race. Lawrence co-founded the Sunrise Movement, a radical climate activist organization funded by George Soros that describes its mission as fighting fascism to implement a Green New Deal. In a 2023 interview, he called for reconstructing America through racial and economic justice frameworks.

Congressman Barrett, by contrast, is a former Army helicopter pilot seeking reelection in Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District. The district voted for President Donald Trump in 2024, making it a toss-up seat that could determine House control. Barrett’s congressional record includes delivering tax cuts for working families and expanding benefits for Michigan veterans.

The race highlights the stark ideological divide between a Republican incumbent with military service and conservative policy achievements versus a Democratic challenger with a history of radical activism who is now attempting to moderate his public image.
