Migration Activist Killed in Ireland – Europe Hunts Asylum Seeker
An American pro-Palestinian activist was found murdered in her Irish home, with police hunting a Middle Eastern asylum seeker who knew the victim and may be fleeing the country.
Jamey Carney, 43, was discovered dead in her home on Tuesday in County Kerry, according to Junge Freiheit. The mother of a 13-year-old daughter had been living in the Irish resort town for approximately five years after relocating from New York state. Her body was found after her daughter raised the alarm.
Irish authorities have launched a murder investigation and established a special task force to track down the suspect. The wanted man is described as an asylum seeker from the Middle East who had been residing in an asylum center in Killarney since mid-2024. He previously lived in France before arriving in Ireland.
Victim Active in Pro-Palestinian Circles
Carney was well known in Killarney not only as a mother and neighbor but also for her involvement in the town’s pro-Palestinian activist scene. On social media, she reportedly positioned herself against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The victim sustained severe head injuries, and her body was covered with a bed cover when discovered. Investigators believe the killing occurred during the night or early morning hours of July 7.
According to Irish media reports, the suspect had spent time in Carney’s home on multiple occasions. Investigators now fear he may attempt to leave Ireland, prompting a Europe-wide manhunt. Sources told Irish newspapers that an international search operation is underway.
Community in Shock
Independent city councillor Martin Grady said the community has been shaken by Carney’s death, describing her as a loving mother and hardworking woman. He urged anyone with information to contact police immediately.
John O’Donoghue, the mayor of Killarney, spoke of the shock gripping the town, stating that a dark cloud now hangs over the community following the brutal killing.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Irish police are appealing to anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between the evening of July 6 and the afternoon of July 7 to come forward. Authorities are particularly interested in surveillance camera footage or dashcam recordings that may assist the investigation.
The case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about asylum policy and public safety in Ireland, as authorities race to locate the suspect before he can potentially leave the country.
