The Trump administration’s promising peace framework between Israel and Lebanon faces deliberate sabotage from Tehran, as the Islamic Republic moves to protect its terrorist assets and imperial foothold in the war-torn nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On June 26, the United States announced a historic trilateral framework bringing Lebanon and Israel together with a stated commitment to end conflict, ensure mutual sovereignty and security, and establish peaceful neighborly relations. The agreement represents a potentially transformative breakthrough for two nations that have been locked in hostility for nearly eight decades.<\/p>\n

Secretary of State Marco Rubio<\/strong> adopted a measured tone when discussing the framework, describing it as the beginning of the beginning<\/em> while acknowledging substantial work remains ahead. Rubio specifically noted that Lebanese citizens have endured tremendous suffering for decades due to outside interference, a reference encompassing both Iranian and Syrian meddling in Lebanese affairs.<\/p>\n

The mere existence of this framework constitutes a significant diplomatic achievement. Lebanon has refused to recognize Israel since the Jewish state’s rebirth in 1948, meaning the small Mediterranean nation has been in a state of war with Israel for virtually its entire sovereign existence, which only began in 1943.<\/p>\n

The consequences of this perpetual conflict have been catastrophic for Lebanon. In 1969, under pressure from Egyptian ruler Gamal Abdel Nasser<\/strong>, Lebanon signed the Cairo Agreement permitting armed Palestinian groups including the Palestine Liberation Organization to operate from Lebanese territory.<\/p>\n

The PLO transformed Lebanon into a launch pad for terrorist attacks against Israel, triggering a brutal 15-year civil war that claimed 150,000 Lebanese lives, representing approximately 4.5% of the entire population. Israel conducted two major military operations into Lebanon to eliminate PLO terrorist infrastructure.<\/p>\n

After PLO leader Yasser Arafat<\/strong> and his organization fled to Tunis, the Iranian-created terrorist group Hezbollah filled the vacuum. Despite claiming to fight for Lebanese sovereignty against foreign invaders, Hezbollah is itself a foreign invader created, funded, and trained by the jihadi regime in Tehran.<\/p>\n
