Sylvia S.<\/strong> from Bremen was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz GLE Coup\u00e9 with nearly 400 horsepower when she and the shooter fled the scene on Monday following the massacre at a youth welfare facility. The vehicle had been registered to her name on May 26, approximately five weeks before the attack, as Nius<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n

Sylvia S. is employed as a family and migration advisor at a nationwide lobbying organization within what critics describe as the migration complex. The organization provides counseling on issues including family reunification, residency rights, and naturalization, positioning itself as an advocacy group for migrant families and against racism. The organization received nearly 900,000 euros in taxpayer funding for 2025 and 2026 combined through the federal NGO program “Demokratie leben!” (Living Democracy).<\/p>\n

According to her own statements, Sylvia S. is also the godmother of the three-month-old baby at the center of the custody dispute between the shooter’s family and authorities. The infant was first treated at Hannover Medical School in early April and later at a children’s hospital for suspected shaken baby syndrome. Three days before the shooting, Sylvia S. allegedly sent a letter to various media outlets. She claimed the three-month-old baby’s injuries were not caused by shaking but by an unintentional collision in bed, where the father allegedly bumped heads with the child while half-asleep. She characterized the incident as an accident.<\/p>\n

The baby’s parents contradicted the accounts provided by doctors and authorities. The father and shooter reportedly attempted to prevent an emergency operation on the child by calling police. Doctors filed charges against him for aggressive behavior. Youth services then took custody of the baby. A family court later permitted the child to return to the mother, but only at the Stade facility and not to their home in Hannover.<\/p>\n

Massacre During Care Plan Meeting<\/h2>\n

On Monday, a care plan meeting took place at the facility. Sylvia S. drove the 45-year-old father to the appointment in Stade. After he opened fire and killed six youth welfare and child services workers, both fled the scene. The 65-year-old was temporarily detained but has since been released. The shooter remains in pre-trial detention.<\/p>\n
