The materials in question reportedly included top secret defence plans. His sentencing is scheduled for October 28.<\/p>\n<p>The former adviser has been a vocal opponent of President Trump since his dismissal in 2019, accusing Trump of attempting to <em>intimidate his opponents<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of a potential plea agreement, Bolton could receive a reduced sentence or avoid imprisonment entirely, though no guarantee has been made. The deal includes a provision allowing Bolton to withdraw his guilty plea if the judge imposes a prison term exceeding five years or a fine greater than $2.25 million, equivalent to \u00a31.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>When the judge read the accusations in court, Bolton confirmed their accuracy. <em>GB News<\/em> reports that he told the court &#8220;I did your honour&#8221; when asked whether he committed the crime, adding that he was sorry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kelly Hayes<\/strong>, US Attorney, spoke outside the courthouse following the plea. She emphasized that Bolton fully understood the sensitive nature of classified information and the proper protocols for handling such documents.<\/p>\n<p>Hayes noted that Bolton was aware of the potential damage to national security that could result from mishandling classified materials.<\/p>\n<p>The case represents a significant legal development for Bolton, who served as national security adviser under Trump before his controversial departure from the administration in 2019.
