According to GB News<\/em>, lawyers representing the British state broadcaster have formally requested that Trump<\/strong> disclose an extensive range of documents including telephone logs, calendars and personal schedules covering the period from November 3, 2020 through January 20, 2021.<\/p>\n

The legal action, which seeks approximately \u00a37.5 billion in damages, stems from accusations that BBC Panorama deliberately edited footage of the President’s January 6, 2021 address in a way that distorted his actual words and intent.<\/p>\n

Allegations of Deceptive Editing<\/h2>\n

The controversy erupted after reporting by The Telegraph in November last year exposed that Panorama had allegedly spliced together disconnected portions of Trump’s<\/strong> speech from the day of the Capitol riots, as GB News<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n

The editing allegedly created a false impression that Trump<\/strong> had directly instructed his supporters to “fight like hell” and storm the Capitol building in Washington DC, when in fact those statements were made in separate contexts during his address.<\/p>\n

What Trump Actually Said<\/h2>\n

In his original speech, the President stated: “But I said something’s wrong here, something is really wrong, can have happened. And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”<\/p>\n

He continued: “Our exciting adventures and boldest endeavors have not yet begun. My fellow Americans, for our movement, for our children, and for our beloved country. And I say this despite all that’s happened. The best is yet to come. So we’re going to, we’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we’re going to the Capitol, and we’re going to try and give.”<\/p>\n

However, the BBC’s edited version presented Trump<\/strong> as saying: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.”<\/em><\/p>\n

BBC Issues Apology but Lawsuit Continues<\/h2>\n

While the licence-fee funded broadcaster has apologized to the US President for the editing error, Trump<\/strong> has chosen to press forward with his legal challenge.<\/p>\n

The case is scheduled to proceed to trial in February of next year, setting up what could become one of the most significant media lawsuits involving a sitting American president.<\/p>\n

The document production demand from BBC lawyers suggests the broadcaster intends to mount a vigorous defense, potentially arguing that context from Trump’s<\/strong> communications and schedule during that period is relevant to the case.<\/p>\n
