Rados\u0142aw Sikorski<\/strong>, Poland’s foreign minister, has called on the UK Government to present a credible defence plan at the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, according to GB News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Polish foreign minister, who lived in Britain for several years and held British citizenship until 2006, delivered a blunt assessment of Britain’s current position. If you want to be a global player, you need to back up your diplomacy with force,<\/em> Sikorski told GB News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He warned that Britain’s influence would decline without adequate military investment, noting that the country possesses unique convening power, a global outlook, and first-class intelligence capabilities. However, he emphasized that these advantages mean little without the military hardware to deploy when needed, whether ships for the Gulf or brigades for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The UK Government has still not released its Defence Investment Plan, which was originally scheduled for publication in Autumn last year. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy<\/strong> announced on Monday that the government intends to publish the plan before July 7.<\/p>\n

Britain now faces uncomfortable questions about its defence commitments at the NATO summit in Turkey, a situation further complicated by Sir Keir Starmer<\/strong>‘s resignation on Monday, as GB News<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n

The delay in Britain’s defence preparedness has raised concerns across European governments, with Sikorski’s criticisms reflecting a broader perception that the UK’s military power is waning.<\/p>\n

Sikorski, an Oxford-educated Anglophile, has witnessed his own country emerge as NATO’s fastest-growing military power. Poland has more than doubled its defence spending since Vladimir Putin<\/strong>‘s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, positioning itself as Europe’s rising military superpower.<\/p>\n
