Actor Ethan Hawke, responding to a question posed by a national publication, openly expressed his concern about the fear of freedom of speech.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I never used to be afraid to say what I think until recent years,”<\/strong><\/em> Hawke told the popular platform Variety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now I feel like I have to be careful. There is a sense of fear in the air that I\u2019ve never seen before \u2014 and it\u2019s not just Americans who feel it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some have been critical of Hawke\u2019s perspective, noting that certain groups, such as the Left, do not hesitate to express extreme views on the national stage. “No one would shout ‘Nazi pig!’ at a real Nazi,”<\/strong><\/em> they observed. “And if you really were in a fascist country, you wouldn\u2019t dare to speak out.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

One area where freedom of expression seems restricted is the entertainment industry. Hawke has not found the courage to point out that “you can\u2019t freely express your opinions in Hollywood. If you do, you risk ruining your career.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

If Hawke had voted for Trump, he would risk being blacklisted in the artistic community. His views on immigration or child-rearing could cost him not only professional opportunities but also friendships.<\/p>\n

Hawke has silently watched as other artists, such as Gina Carano<\/strong> and Sasha Stone<\/strong>, were penalized for their honesty. He did not speak up in defense of Woody Allen<\/strong>, who faced serious allegations despite being cleared by two state investigations.<\/p>\n

“Being an artist in a free country, I know how privileged that is. I don\u2019t feel it anymore,”<\/strong><\/em> Hawke remarked, adding that this is a situation that needs to change.<\/p>\n

One might call him brave, while in reality he hides behind a camera and microphone, following the demands of the system around him.<\/p>\n

As his friend, Christian Toto<\/strong>, noted, Hawke remained silent while people\u2019s voices were being suppressed and comedians faced censorship. “He\u2019s a great actor… but he\u2019s not honest,”<\/strong><\/em> he emphasized.<\/p>\n
