At least one police officer from the Chania Police Directorate serves permanently on the island, bearing sole responsibility for the security of the entire island. Access to Gavdos depends exclusively on weather conditions and the island does not have complete infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h2>Double standards for border areas<\/h2>\n<p>As <em>Law &#038; Order<\/em> reports, the Chania Police Union is protesting because the same area is recognized as a border region for other categories of civil servants serving there who receive the corresponding allowance. The announcement is addressed to Minister of Citizen Protection <strong>Michalis Chrysochoidis<\/strong>, the Chief of the Hellenic Police, POASY, and the Members of Parliament from Chania.<\/p>\n<h2>Appeal for justice<\/h2>\n<p><em>&#8220;The police officer serving at the southernmost point of Europe deserves first and foremost respect and the same recognition as any other civil servant in his position,&#8221;<\/em> the Chania Police Union states in its announcement.
