Officials have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation continues.

Among those arrested was Yolanda Santos, the town’s councillor for tourism and commerce, along with her husband. The Soria town hall has suspended Santos from her duties pending the outcome of the inquiry, while the local Socialist branch has moved to freeze her party membership and launched its own internal investigation.

Investigators are examining a range of alleged offenses including influence peddling, administrative misconduct, prohibited dealings by public officials, document forgery, money laundering, and participation in a criminal organization. The probe reportedly centers on contracts awarded to Biosfera Soria, an environmental education and tourism company co-founded by Santos that has received municipal work for years.

The operation is being overseen by Soria’s investigating court number 3 and the provincial prosecutor’s office. Proceedings have been declared secret, and the government sub-delegation in Soria has declined to release further details at this stage.

Carlos Martínez, the Socialist leader in the Castilla y León region who served as Soria’s mayor for 19 years until April, said he regarded the investigation with complete calm and urged restraint while the case remains sealed. Martínez was attending a forum in Tangier, Morocco, when the raid took place.

The arrests come just days after the conviction of former transport minister José Luis Ábalos, once among Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s most trusted lieutenants, in a separate graft case. The timing adds to a growing list of corruption scandals casting a shadow over the Spanish government.

Sánchez leads a fragile coalition that depends on regional and left-wing allies in the national parliament, and his Socialist Party remains a significant force within Europe’s social democratic bloc. Each new scandal intensifies scrutiny in both Brussels and Madrid over the durability of his administration, though the Prime Minister has so far refused opposition calls for an early election.

With information from Brussels Signal

Spanish authorities arrested six people including a tourism councillor in Soria over alleged corruption involving municipal contracts awarded to a company she co-founded.

[122
3692,7963,630,7965,7964
134
post-8591","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-socialist-workers-party","tag-soria","tag-spain","tag-town-hall","tag-yolanda-santos","nfg_topic-europe
["GET
