According to The European Conservative<\/em>, Orb\u00e1n<\/strong> addressed reporters on Wednesday, June 17th, before a scheduled meeting of Patriots for Europe leadership on Thursday. Despite his Fidesz party’s defeat in Hungary’s April parliamentary election after sixteen years in power, Orb\u00e1n maintained that the political shift toward patriotic parties remains unstoppable.<\/p>\n

Fidesz was unseated by the centrist, pro-Brussels Tisza Party led by P\u00e9ter Magyar<\/strong>, ending one of the longest-serving conservative governments in Europe. Yet Orb\u00e1n dismissed the notion that this reversal signals a broader decline for national-conservative forces.<\/p>\n

The Hungarian statesman argued that patriotic organizations and parties continue to advance across Europe, driven by public frustration over migration, economic competitiveness, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. He called for fundamental reform of the European Union’s leadership, which he said has failed to deliver results on these critical issues.<\/p>\n

Orb\u00e1n also renewed his longstanding criticism of the European Commission’s decision to freeze billions of euros in EU funds to Hungary during his tenure. He accused Brussels of deploying financial blackmail to interfere in domestic politics, noting that his government responded by exercising its veto power.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Orb\u00e1n suggested that the new Tisza government is adopting a posture of surrender, prepared to comply with Brussels’ demands in exchange for restored funding. The shift toward a less confrontational relationship with EU institutions could signal a policy reversal on Hungary’s formerly robust defense of national sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Orb\u00e1n was in Brussels for a meeting with fellow leaders of Patriots for Europe, one of the European Parliament’s principal right-wing political alliances.<\/p>\n
