The artist claims the arrow stands not only for historical injustices but also for current challenges of global inequality and the need for just reconciliation. The installation pierces the non-historical eastern facade of the palace, which was reconstructed in recent years after decades of Communist-era absence.<\/p>\n

The piece represents a clear alignment with left-wing postcolonial interpretive frameworks, Junge Freiheit<\/em> reports. The outlet suggests the installation serves as an attempt to heal the wound inflicted on Berlin’s left-leaning cultural establishment by the very reconstruction of the City Palace itself, a building that symbolizes Old Prussia and its monarchy.<\/p>\n

The Berlin City Palace, known in German as the Stadtschloss, was the royal residence of the Prussian kings and German emperors until its severe damage in World War II. The East German Communist regime demolished the ruins in 1950, replacing it with the modernist Palace of the Republic. After German reunification, a long-running debate culminated in the decision to rebuild the historic palace, which now houses the Humboldt Forum cultural center.<\/p>\n
