The Bestensee Primary School became part of the nationwide initiative after 78 percent of participating school members voted in favor last week, according to Junge Freiheit<\/em>. Turnout reached 92 percent, comfortably exceeding the 70 percent approval threshold required for membership.<\/p>\n

The school leadership’s plan to join “School Without Racism \u2013 School With Courage” had faced resistance from a parent initiative concerned about left-wing political influence in the classroom. The founder of that initiative, who is also a member of the Alternative for Germany party, has accused the network of systematically violating the principle of political neutrality required in German schools.<\/p>\n

Network Encourages Excluding AfD Politicians<\/h2>\n

The parent had spent months presenting specific concerns to both school and education office officials, as Junge Freiheit<\/em> reports. A key example emerged in January when “School Without Racism \u2013 School With Courage” published material on its website under the hashtag “#wirsindnichtneutral” (we are not neutral), supporting schools that refuse to invite AfD politicians to panel discussions. The network’s guidance explicitly states there is no obligation to invite the party.<\/p>\n

School administrators and the regional education office dismissed these concerns. In a letter to the father obtained by Junge Freiheit<\/em>, the education office argued that the Beutelsbach Consensus, which prohibits political indoctrination in schools, does not require neutrality toward what they termed “anti-constitutional tendencies.”<\/p>\n

State Education Minister Backs Initiative<\/h2>\n

Gordon Hoffmann<\/strong>, Brandenburg’s Education Minister from the Christian Democratic Union, visited the school last Monday to express support for the administration’s position. The minister declared that racism has no place anywhere in Germany, signaling state-level backing for the controversial program.<\/p>\n

Legal Challenge Filed<\/h2>\n

The parent initiative founder has now filed a lawsuit at the Cottbus Administrative Court, according to Junge Freiheit<\/em>. The legal action seeks to compel the education office to rule on a request for supervisory intervention against the cooperation between Bestensee Primary School and the “Schools Without Racism” network.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Junge Freiheit<\/em> on Monday, the father stated the group acknowledges the vote result but sees significant need for clarification. He warned that allowing the program to proceed would send a troubling signal for democracy, arguing that neutral schools represent a fundamental distinction between democratic and autocratic systems. He expressed concern that attacking this neutrality damages not only trust in education but democratic foundations themselves.<\/p>\n
