An illegal immigrant, who had been released by Biden, shot and killed Sheridan Gorman as she ran for her life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Medina-Medina, 25, from Venezuela, is charged with the murder of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman in Chicago.<\/p>\n

Chicago prosecutors revealed that an illegal immigrant, released by Joe Biden\u2019s administration, shot and killed 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman while she was trying to escape.<\/p>\n

New details emerged during Monday\u2019s court hearing. According to assistant prosecutor Mike Pekara, shortly after 1:30 a.m. on March 19, the young woman was with a group of friends on the Tobey Prince beach pier at Loyola Park, a few blocks north of the University of Loyola Chicago campus.<\/p>\n

Sheridan Gorman noticed someone hiding nearby and warned her friends. Immediately, the unknown individual \u2013 later identified as Medina-Medina \u2013 began chasing them.<\/p>\n

The moment of the attack<\/h2>\n

The assailant opened fire and shot Gorman in the back as she ran to save herself. The young woman, who was also known by the nickname “Sera,” died instantly. Her friends managed to take cover in a grassy area, while Medina-Medina ran back to his apartment on North Sheridan Road. Witnesses described him as dressed mostly in black, wearing a black face mask.<\/p>\n

The perpetrator\u2019s immigration background<\/h2>\n

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency revealed on Sunday that Medina-Medina is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. He was arrested at the southern border on May 9, 2023, and was freed inside the country due to former President Joe Biden\u2019s \u201ccatch and release\u201d policy.<\/p>\n

Soon after, on June 19, 2023, he was arrested in Chicago for shoplifting. Nevertheless, Chicago and Illinois\u2019 sanctuary policies allowed his release without notifying ICE for deportation. The 25-year-old remains in custody and is receiving treatment for tuberculosis.<\/p>\n

Sheridan\u2019s legacy<\/h2>\n

Friends and family of Sheridan Gorman created a page on GoFundMe to cover the costs of the memorial service and to establish a scholarship in her memory.<\/p>\n
