Troops with Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade deployed a heavy-duty Vampire hexacopter drone on June 8 for what they called “Operation Meow-Meow,” transporting the feline family approximately 7.5 miles from the danger zone to safer ground, as New York Post<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n

The soldier<\/strong> who detailed the mission explained that while these sophisticated hexacopters are normally used for nighttime munitions drops, destroying armored targets, clearing enemy positions, or resupplying troops, this operation had a completely different purpose\u2014rescue.<\/p>\n

The drone pilot navigated the delicate cargo with precision, ensuring all five cats arrived safely out of harm’s way.<\/p>\n

Thousands of Animals Left Behind in War Zone<\/h2>\n

The successful feline evacuation highlights a broader crisis affecting countless animals across Ukraine’s combat zones. Many families fleeing the conflict have been forced to abandon their pets when unable to meet European Union entry requirements for vaccinations, microchipping, and rabies testing.<\/p>\n

According to UAnimals<\/strong>, one of Ukraine’s leading animal welfare organizations, more than 10,000 animals have been evacuated since the full-scale Russian invasion began. The rescued animals span an extraordinary range of species, including dogs, tigers, camels, horses, cattle, raccoons, wolves, donkeys, porcupines, lemurs, sheep, and even bees.<\/p>\n

Soldiers Adopt Strays Along Battle Lines<\/h2>\n

Cats have become a ubiquitous presence at Ukrainian military positions, roaming checkpoints, taking shelter in bombed structures, and even keeping company with wounded soldiers in field hospitals. Ukrainian troops have made it a practice to care for displaced strays they encounter.<\/p>\n

In response to the animal welfare emergency, Ukrainians have established dedicated shelters and rescue networks to protect displaced animals throughout the war zone.<\/p>\n

The heartwarming rescue operation drew praise on social media, with supporters thanking the soldiers for demonstrating compassion amid the brutality of combat and for what one commenter called saving the little tails<\/em>.<\/p>\n
