A man of Nigerian origin was found to have killed a cat and was attempting to roast it in the middle of a public park, right next to a playground. The horror of passersby was so intense that multiple calls to the police were made, prompting the authorities to intervene. Photos leaked to the Italian media, although with the scenes of the slaughter blurred, depict the brutality of the act in a space intended for the recreation of families and young children.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to announcements, Stefano Torri, security advisor in the province of La Spezia, spoke bluntly about an act of barbarity that cannot be tolerated in any civilized country. His intervention on social media gave a glimpse of the local authorities\u2019 determination to change the lawlessness that seems to prevail in Crotsiata Park. At the same time, Michela Vittoria Brambilla, a member of parliament known for her animal rights activism, categorically stated that Italy is not a \u201cno man\u2019s land\u201d where anyone can bring their own customs while ignoring the laws of the host country.<\/p>\n

The unfortunate animal bears wounds that led her to intensive care, where she is being fed by a tube, while the police are searching for the \u201cdemon\u201d of the area, as residents call him, fearing he is responsible for the disappearance of many other pets.<\/p>\n

Last year, a migrant from Mali slaughtered the dog in front of a pharmacy in Naro to consume it, despite Merlin being the neighborhood\u2019s \u201cmascot.\u201d The outrageous aspect of the Naro case was that the perpetrator had been arrested just a week earlier for dousing another dog with hot oil, but the judicial system released him, resulting in an almost immediate repeat of the crime.<\/p>\n

The stance of the judiciary is under the activists\u2019 scrutiny. Enrico Ricci, known for his advocacy for animals, was scathing in his comments on the Mali case, noting that impunity leads to new victims. As announced by the \u201cHope\u201d shelter in Agrigento, citizens do not intend to remain silent. They have already begun the process of filing formal complaints, demanding justice for Merlin and safety for all stray animals living on Italy\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n

The discussion has now gone beyond the boundaries of animal welfare and touches on the issue of cultural integration. Citizens wonder how it is possible that people living in a European country can so blatantly ignore public health and ethical rules.
