The rebuke follows earlier criticism from Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prominent American Jewish organizations over the inflammatory language, according to New York Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay issued a joint statement Tuesday declaring that expressions linked to Nazism have no place in democratic discourse and warrant condemnation, particularly when uttered by a sitting head of state.<\/p>\n

The legislators emphasized that this incident cannot be examined in isolation, pointing to the left-wing president’s pattern of deploying Nazi references and allusions when attacking political opponents, critics, and media organizations.<\/p>\n

In their joint declaration, organized through the Combat Antisemitism Movement, the lawmakers stated that Nazi references must not be weaponized as rhetorical devices to undermine political or ideological viewpoints. They stressed that democratic leaders bear responsibility for fostering respectful public debate that recognizes the gravity of language.<\/p>\n

Scholars and historians have consistently warned that such comparisons serve to minimize the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime while distorting the historical memory of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

The controversy erupts just two weeks before Colombia’s runoff election, where the conservative opposition candidate has taken the lead in polling ahead of the final vote in the South American nation.<\/p>\n
