Oleksandr Syrskyi<\/strong>, Ukraine’s military chief, confirmed Monday that his forces have retaken multiple sections of land along the 800-mile front, with more than one-fifth of those gains achieved during last month’s operations alone.<\/p>\n

May proved particularly successful for Kyiv, with Ukrainian forces recovering over 38 square miles of ground. The month also represented Russia’s first net territorial loss since Ukraine’s major counter-offensive in 2023, DeepState, an independent Ukraine-based battlefield analysis group, reported.<\/p>\n

Syrskyi provided further details on May’s combat results, stating that Ukrainian forces struck more than 88,000 Russian military targets throughout the month. The operations resulted in the deaths of over 30,000 Russian soldiers and inflicted damage exceeding $1 billion on Moscow’s military-industrial infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The most intense combat continues to rage in the eastern Donetsk region, where Russian forces have failed to achieve meaningful territorial advances for nearly two years, according to the Ukrainian commander.<\/p>\n

Syrskyi identified the village of Oleksandrivka in the Kherson region and the city of Huliaipole in the Zaporizhzhia region as current flashpoints along the front where the fiercest fighting is underway.<\/p>\n

In a notable claim, Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian soldiers remain engaged in combat within Pokrovsk, despite widespread expert assessment that Russia captured the strategically important logistical hub last year following a protracted campaign lasting nearly two years.<\/p>\n

The Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based research organization, corroborated Ukraine’s reported successes. The think tank found at the end of May that Kyiv was actively breaking the stalemate character of the conflict.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian drone warfare has emerged as a critical factor in the shifting battlefield dynamics. The ISW specifically highlighted Ukraine’s effective deployment of unmanned aerial systems to disrupt Russian supply lines and troop movements along the front as instrumental in halting Moscow’s advances.<\/p>\n

Military analysts had previously warned that Russia would launch a major spring offensive and push beyond Pokrovsk. Both predictions have been prevented by Ukraine’s sustained drone assault campaign.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian President Zelensky previously characterized May’s territorial gains as proof that the conflict is not trending in the occupier’s favor, expressing confidence that mounting Russian battlefield casualties will eventually compel the Kremlin to pursue diplomatic solutions.<\/p>\n
