Rep. Adriano Espaillat<\/strong> has launched a 30-second ad exposing the controversial tweets from primary opponent Darializa Avila Chevalier<\/strong>, according to New York Post<\/em>. The spot reveals posts the challenger attempted to scrub from the internet before launching her congressional bid.<\/p>\n

The advertisement opens with archived tweets showing Avila Chevalier attacking prominent Democrats. One post featured in the ad shows her writing about Kamala Harris with profane hostility during the 2024 presidential race. Another archived message accused President Joe Biden of being a rapist, despite the former president never facing charges and vigorously denying decades-old allegations from a former Senate aide.<\/p>\n

Espaillat’s campaign also highlighted a post in which Avila Chevalier boasted about wiping her hand on an American flag when she forgot napkins, accompanied by a smile emoji. The ad juxtaposes this with an image of an elderly veteran saluting the flag.<\/p>\n

Perhaps most inflammatory was a tweet attacking black men and Arab men for what she described as fetishizing unattractive white women, which appears in the campaign spot alongside an image of an interracial couple.<\/p>\n

When confronted about the deleted posts during a WNYC radio debate last week, the 32-year-old challenger dismissed concerns. New York Post<\/em> reports that Avila Chevalier claimed she had no interest in discussing old tweets, characterizing them as distractions from substantive campaign issues and her progressive agenda.<\/p>\n

Espaillat fired back during the debate, arguing that his opponent’s social media history constitutes her only real record. The 71-year-old congressman questioned why she would erase tweets from just a few years ago if she stood by them.<\/p>\n

The incumbent representative is seeking his sixth term representing New York’s 13th House district, which covers northern Manhattan and the northwest Bronx. Espaillat made history as the first Dominican-American elected to the House of Representatives and currently chairs the House Hispanic Caucus. He succeeded the late Congressman Charles Rangel.<\/p>\n

Avila Chevalier, also Dominican-American, works as an immigration-rights activist for an organization fighting deportation and detention. The Columbia University graduate has organized anti-Israel protests related to the Gaza conflict and maintains close ties to anti-Israel activists, including a former Columbia graduate student whose deportation battle has become a cause c\u00e9l\u00e8bre among leftist groups.<\/p>\n

Mayor Mamdani has put significant political capital behind Avila Chevalier’s challenge to the veteran congressman. The Democratic Socialists of America and Justice Democrats have also endorsed her candidacy.<\/p>\n

Additional archived tweets from Avila Chevalier show her calling the United States a profane disgrace and demanding complete abolition of all police forces, according to New York Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n
