The arrest of a Palestinian in Crete for involvement in the terrorist pro-Turkish organization Hamas is causing shock. The 37-year-old lived and worked in Agios Nikolaos for two years at a hotel, without raising suspicions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The case brings Crete to the forefront of investigations to combat terrorism. Particularly at the start of the tourist season, when many tens of thousands of tourists of Israeli origin plan to visit our country.<\/p>\n

According to reports by Haniotika-nea<\/em>, the man had settled in the Agios Nikolaos area about two years ago. He worked at a hotel, had no family in Crete, and kept a low profile, without giving cause for any suspicion among those around him.<\/p>\n

His arrest began from an investigation initially focused on Cyprus.<\/strong> During the investigation of a case involving terrorism suspects, a phone emerged that proved to be a crucial link. The competent services were thus led to Agios Nikolaos.<\/p>\n

A careful and discreet operation to locate and identify him followed. The 37-year-old was arrested without any leak or disturbance to the local community and was transferred to Athens.<\/p>\n

The case is being handled jointly by the National Intelligence Service (EYP) and the Directorate for Combating Special Violent Crimes. Investigations continue at an intensive pace. Authorities are trying to fully map his contacts, movements, and activities during his stay in Crete, while they are meticulously examining all findings discovered in his possession.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the microscope are phone cards, electronic devices, and his laptop, along with every other element that may reveal the extent of his connections and the role he allegedly had. Sources report that the 37-year-old had a “vision” in the field of terrorist activity.<\/p>\n

Particular weight is given to the official announcement by the Hellenic Police, which clearly characterizes him as “a member of the terrorist organization Hamas, with training received, travel, and planning of terrorist actions”<\/em><\/strong>. This wording shows the seriousness of the case and the vigilance of the Greek authorities at a time when Crete is receiving heavy tourist traffic.<\/p>\n
