The federal office of Kaleb, a Christian pregnancy support association, was attacked with paint on May 21 in Chemnitz, according to Junge Freiheit<\/em>. The perpetrators published a statement claiming responsibility on the leftist platform Indymedia.<\/p>\n

Falk Wei\u00dfbach<\/strong>, director of the organization’s headquarters, confirmed the incident to the Idea news agency. The entire street-facing facade was sprayed with paint, with cleanup costs estimated between 3,000 and 4,000 euros. This marks the third such attack on the building in the past four years.<\/p>\n

Extremists Label Christian Organization as ‘Right-Wing Fundamentalists’<\/h2>\n

In their published statement, the attackers justified the vandalism by labeling Kaleb as “right-wing fundamentalists” operating from “purely Christian fundamentalist conviction” with the goal of preventing all abortions from taking place.<\/p>\n

The perpetrators threatened to continue their campaign “until Kaleb is neither state-funded nor able to exert any influence on our society.” They also called for counter-protests against a “March for Life” event scheduled for Saturday in Annaberg.<\/p>\n

Organization Provides Extensive Social Services to Pregnant Women<\/h2>\n

Wei\u00dfbach emphasized to Idea that 97 percent of Kaleb’s counseling work involves advising and supporting women during pregnancy, covering moving costs, furniture assistance, rent and energy debts, help with applications, interim aid, parental benefits and leave, household appliances, and parenting questions.<\/p>\n

In the Chemnitz region alone, Kaleb distributed approximately 125,000 euros in assistance last year, funds raised through foundations and directed to those in need. Wei\u00dfbach pointed out that shutting down operations, as the attackers demand, would harm precisely those people who urgently need and want this help.<\/p>\n

Solidarity Grows Despite Intimidation<\/h3>\n

Ernst von Heyking<\/strong>, managing director of Kaleb’s Chemnitz regional chapter, noted that the organization’s work is receiving increasing recognition and support. He stated that because of these “unfortunate incidents,” the association has experienced growing solidarity through donations, expressions of support, and prayers. Nearly all factions in the city council condemned the paint attacks as criminal acts.<\/p>\n

Roots in East German Resistance<\/h2>\n

The acronym Kaleb stands for “Cooperative Work to Reverently Preserve Life” in German, while also referencing the biblical figure Caleb. According to the organization, the initiative began in 1988 as a pro-life movement in the former East Germany. Following German reunification, it became a registered association.<\/p>\n

Kaleb now operates approximately 30 regional offices across Germany, ranging from dedicated individuals to independent regional associations offering comprehensive services for pregnant women and families, along with additional social welfare programs.<\/p>\n
